Proper Initial Adjustment Guide
Ensure safety and optimal performance by starting with the proportioning valve set to the maximum reduction setting. Follow our step-by-step guide for precise adjustment and testing to achieve perfect brake balance and performance.
- Ensure tires are inflated to recommended pressures for accurate testing.
- Prepare your vehicle with half a tank of gas or less, no passengers, and minimal trunk contents for consistent testing conditions. •
- If only the front locked, adjust the knob out two full turns to allow more pressure to the rear brakes and test again.
- Continue adjusting in, two turns at a time, until the front and rear wheels lock in a hard stop.
- Adjust knob in one complete turn and test again.
- Continue these adjustments 1/2 turn out or in at a time until maximum braking can be achieved and no wheel rear lock is observed.
- Test the vehicle again at 50 mph to judge the effects of a more dramatic weight transfer and make any additional adjustments as needed. Typically by turning the knob in to decrease pressure to the rear.
Note: When bleeding your brakes, turning the proportioning valve fully out can simplify the process. Remember the number of rotations for accurate readjustment post-bleeding.
